DOGS IN CANADA Brenda Aloff is well known in the positive-training community. Along with this DD, she has published two books on the subject: Positive Reinforcement—Training Dogs in the Real World and Aggression in Dogs—Practical Management, Prevention and Behavior Modification. The great thing about her books is that her writing is geared toward pet owners, not dog trainers or animal behaviorists. So anybody reading her books feels like they can train their dogs and it won’t be an impossible task. Her DVD is no different. Brenda is down to earth with both her explanations and her teaching. She starts off with her basics of positive reinforcement and reward marking. She does explain the theory, but in a manner that is easy to understand while not being condescending. The first teaching session she covers is handling, something that’s important for all dog owners to know. It makes trips to the vet simpler and grooming easier. Brenda goes on to discuss eye contact, sits, down, recalls, leave it, gentle restraint and walking nicely on a loose leash. Most of the demonstrations are done with young puppies, but she works with some adult dogs as well. Her techniques would be useful for puppies and adult dogs alike. Overall this DVD is an excellent tool for any dog owner. All the techniques are de3monstrated several times, so the viewer doesn’t feel the need to take notes or act quickly.
