Reinforcement MagicEnroll Now

  • Do you wonder why you work and work and still don’t seem to be getting through to your dog? I want RELIABILITY!
  • Ever been told your timing needs work?
  • Do you get stuck in Acquisition and it seems like all you are doing is stuffing cookies in your dog’s face without the stupendous result promised by using treats to train? When does this behaviour hold up and become reliable?
  • What does a dog need to understand in Acquisition and how do I get that to a behaviour that is easy to maintain and dependable?
  • Every time you take your dog to a new location or context, do your behaviours disintegrate before your eyes or even explode with a big bang right in front of you?
  • The great majority of our training time is spent in Generalization, but what should I be doing there to make it work better? My training is great at home and where I take regular lessons. Why do my behaviours fail when I take them to a new place? Frustrating!

Old fashioned words. Not very scientific sounding. And yet, we know, instinctively that these words matter. In every relationship. When we are working hard to get our dogs to “partner up’ with us, science can take us far.

The trick is to change that Science into Art. That is the real skill set of dog training ... taking messy emotions and adding the science, mixing it with the real world and including emotional states and ... turning that unpredictable melee into the Art of Training.

Essential Exercises for the Engaged Dog

I am a firm believer in a good foundation. If you don’t have it and are merely training “exercises” and “positions,” you will fall short. Just when you need your dog to be dependable, the behaviour fails.

This webinar covers the behaviours that I think are the Foundation of all else. Once these behaviours are on board, you can build anything on top of them you like. It benefits ALL performance dogs, working dogs and pets, too.

HOW you train these behaviours is just as important as WHICH behaviours.

Why Restraint Tolerance?

Why Restraint Tolerance?

Webinar Description

Why Restraint Tolerance?Enroll Now

When I was teaching lots of entry level classes, and there have been many (thousands, between group classes and private lessons) over the last 30+ years, I felt that Restraint Tolerance was the MOST important thing to teach.

When I query my instructors, they validate my own experiences. When we poll our entry level attendees, what do they often list as the most valuable thing we taught them? Yup. Restraint Tolerance.

This Webinar Covers These Topics

In my training system, there are 3 specific protocols for Body Work that we deem Foundational:

  1. Sit Restraint
  2. Down Restraint
  3. Be Still

Both sit restraint and be still can be used interchangeably to help improve greetings.

This material covers primarily the Sit Restraint protocol. Down Restraint and Be Still are taught separately. Sit Restraint is typically the easiest to teach the dog. Use it for these occasions:

  • Greetings
  • Puppy Mouthing
  • Bossy Biting
  • Calming an Aroused Dog
  • Containing an energetic dog
  • Introducing a Worried Puppy to other dogs

As always, the first lesson of my webinar is free. Hope you'll join us for the full Webinar!

If you wish to explore the other Body Work protocols, you can find material in any one of my books.  For example, the "Be Still" is covered in both Get Connected With Your Dog and Puppy Problems? No Problem!
